Beware of Turtles! Every year about this time, female snapping turtles come on shore here at The Lake to lay their eggs. Snapping turtles tend to be a bit testy. They don't care of nosey dogs. A nosey dog is any dog who has to check things out...leading with their nose. Fortunately, my dogs both still have noses. I keep a wary eye out this time of year. I have two chihuahuas. The snapping turtles have a size and weight advantage. Yesterday, we had our first snapping turtle sighting. She was in our driveway. The dogs had to stay on leash. I'd rather let the dogs run around loose here at The Lake but...I'd just as soon not have to figure out how to get a dog with its nose stuck in a snapping turtles jaws...along with the snapping turtle...to a vet in the city. There is no vet here in town. Ergo...the dogs are sentenced to leash walks unless I make sure the surrounds of our home are free from snapping turtles. *sigh*
