Woodtick Count of the Day - 41
I picked the black currants today. I've only got the two bushes but they out did themselves this year. The poor bushes were weighed down with fruit. I ended up with five pounds of black currants. Then...
Sis and I picked four quarts of wild prickly gooseberries and I went back and picked another quart of wild gooseberries after taking Sis home. So...
Tomorrow, Sis and I will start a batch of our Prickly Gooseberry Wine (which also has black currants but...shhh...that's our secret ingredient). Once again, we'll attempt to make an effervescent wine. Wild Champagne. Wine-making isn't an exact science...even at the big wineries. There's just so many variables. How much rain did the plants receive while growing the fruit? How warm was it during the growing season? How cold was it? How cold did it get last winter? Nature versus nurture. And then...there's also a certain magic quotient and that magic can be hit or miss. Last year...we missed, but the wine was still wonderful. The year before, we hit. Wild Champagne. This year? We'll see.
